Strengthen Food Packaging Supervision To Ensure Healthy Diet

Food safety is a big issue related to the health of the people and is increasingly concerned by the Chinese government and the masses. When it comes to food safety, there is one problem that cannot be ignored. That is the food packaging problem.
a wide variety of food packaging
There are a wide variety of packaged foods that people buy from the mall. Paper-packed candy, ice cream; biscuits, puffed food, milk powder, frozen food, pickles in plastic bags; plastic bottles (boxes) or glass bottles of beverages, alcohol, condiments, yogurt, jelly; metal canned beer ,can.
It is bulk food such as roasted seeds and nuts, cooked meat products, and on-site foods purchased from the morning market and farmer's market, such as steamed bread, pancakes, fried dough sticks, etc., which also need to be simply packaged. However, how many people think that if there is a problem with food packaging, it will also have an adverse effect on the safety of food, which in turn affects the health of consumers.
We can often see that the stall owner will use the ultra-thin plastic bag to pack the freshly fried oil cake and hand it to the customer. All customers did not object to this. When asked: "Do you think it is good to use this kind of plastic bag?" The general answer is: "I buy it earlier every day, nothing, very good." "Ultra-thin plastic bagged food may be bad for health." Influence, do you know?" "Yes? Why didn't I feel it?"
Not just anything can hold food
He Nanzhi, vice president of China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association, said that there are certain problems in China's food packaging. He Nanzhi told reporters about this: There was a businessman who asked where to buy a machine that made ham sausage blow molding, which was the cheapest. He Nanzhi explained to him that it is cheaper, but the film made by oxygen and bacteria is too bad to be packaged. The businessman said nothing, anyway, selling to small food stores in rural areas, not so much attention. He Nanzhi said that this is just an example. Some unscrupulous manufacturers still think of ways to package raw materials. In order to obtain maximum profits, they ignore the relevant regulations of the country and the health of consumers.
For food packaging, the state has established fairly strict regulations. The Food Sanitation Law defines food containers and packaging materials as packaging, food, paper, bamboo, wood, metal, enamel, ceramics, plastics, rubber, natural fibers, chemical fibers, glass, etc. Food coatings.
Three of the Food Sanitation Laws are designed for food packaging. The state also has health management measures for food plastic products and raw materials, raw paper for food packaging, rubber products for food, and epoxy phenolic paint for food cans. He Nanzhi said that the relevant provisions of the state cannot be said to be imperfect, but there are some food packaging manufacturers that do not implement it, posing a hidden danger to the health of consumers. The purpose of food packaging is to protect foods from chemical and microbiological factors, to ensure that the nutrients and inherent quality of foods are unchanged, thereby protecting the health of consumers.
In addition, packaging provides many convenient conditions for the transportation, storage, sale and use of food. Scientific food packaging can extend the shelf life of food and reduce the deterioration of food. If packaging machinery and raw materials are not standardized, there is no guarantee that a qualified food packaging will be produced. In addition, some food sellers use food packaging that cannot be packaged for food to reduce costs. For example, ultra-thin plastic bags are made of recycled waste plastics, which have not been disinfected during the production process, and may also add substances harmful to the human body during production, which cannot be used for food. But there are still many people using ultra-thin plastic bags for food. This phenomenon is most common in morning markets and farmer markets.
Ink is also not a small problem
He Nanzhi said that many food packagings are printed with colorful and exquisite patterns. Few people know that most of the printed inks contain benzene harmful to human body. A benzene aromatic hydrocarbon compound is a product of coal tar distillation or petroleum cracking. Benzene can cause chronic poisoning, mainly causing damage to the nervous system and hematopoietic system. It is characterized by headache, dizziness, insomnia, continuous reduction of white blood cells, and thrombocytopenia. These damages occur slowly, do not appear in the short term, and are easily overlooked by consumers. Therefore, the ink is not in direct contact with the food. Most food packaging bags are now printed like this: after the pattern is printed on a plastic bag, a layer of plastic is attached to it, ie the ink is enclosed between two layers of plastic and does not contaminate the food. But consumers still have to be vigilant, and those plastic bags that can be used to remove the pattern by hand are unqualified.
Ideal food packaging is harmless to the human environment
The benzene in the ink mentioned above is a highly volatile substance that is easily released into the atmosphere during the printing process, causing pollution to the environment. He Nanzhi said that there are also disposable plastic products that are not easily degradable, such as foaming lunch boxes, which are also harmful to the environment. This is what people often call "white pollution." The foaming material used in the foaming lunch box itself is toxic, and the blowing agent used is freon. Some people with a little common sense know that Freon will destroy the ozone layer of the atmosphere and is therefore banned by some industries.
In the production of foamed lunch boxes, Freon will continue to volatilize; when the finished lunch box is stored, Freon is still volatilized; the residual Freon will volatilize when the food box contains more than 60 °C. It can be said that the foamed lunch box is harmful to the human body and the environment. Therefore, the country has long refused to use foamed lunch boxes. The ideal food package should be harmless to the human body and the environment. Developed countries require packaging to comply with the principles of green materials, reusability, and degradability; the use of alcohol-soluble inks to replace benzene-containing inks has also become a trend. Nowadays, biodegradable plastics in China have been used in the field of food packaging production, and they have developed rapidly. Food containers made of potato and corn starch have also appeared.
Strengthening supervision
He Nanzhi said that for foods with packaging, because people do not have the means of testing, it is difficult to find the insecurities of packaging. Therefore, relevant government departments should strengthen the supervision of enterprises. This is also currently lacking in China's food safety supervision work. The relevant national laws and regulations have been set up more and more strict, and enterprises will not be able to protect the interests of the people without implementing them. For unconscious business operators, they must be strictly supervised. At present, the biggest problem of food packaging pollution is township enterprises, and the rural market is the weakest place for supervision. Therefore, the work of the regulatory authorities must be in-depth. In addition, it is also important to improve the quality of the supervisory law enforcement. If the law enforcement officers do not know how to do it, or are unfamiliar with the regulations, they do not know what to check. How to check, these supervised law enforcement officers with insufficient business literacy can not achieve real supervision even if they are deeply involved in the enterprise.
